Building to Serve

We had a great meeting yesterday (that went way too long!) with all the ministry leaders (now called ministry executives). We went through some great leadership stuff and looked at the new strategy for 2007. It was a great time of just everyone getting on board with the vision and willing to help. The two biggest things we did was introduce the new small groups that we're calling Home Teams, and introduced the new logo and slogan, Building to Serve.

Home Teams are going to be a great way to build relationships and trust with other members of our church 'family'. We had one Home Team (although we didn't call it that) before the meeting, we now have at least 2 more committed to starting Home Teams in their home. WOW!! Amazing how great God is! I'm looking forward to hearing great things from these 3 Home Teams this coming year. If you want to be a involved in a Home Team or feel like you might want to lead one, let me know. It's a great, and easy, way to build relationships and strengthen our church family. Also, it's a great way to build relationships with seekers (unsaved) in our community.

The other big thing was the introduction of the new logo and slogan, "Building to Serve". We are building, not to get big for the sake of getting big's sake, but to serve. It's All in How You Look At It!

Pastor Forney will begin a new sermon series entitled, “It’s All In How You Look At It”, beginning Sunday, March 4. We will be looking at what it means to have a “Biblical” worldview. We will look at subjects such as evolution, heaven, hell, when is it right to fight, the problem of evil and other topics and what the Christian perspective is and should be. Maybe you know someone who has been struggling as to what they believe in these areas-invite them to come to church as we grow together!

Reel Faith - One Night With the King

We are going to have another movie night at the church on Saturday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m. We will be showing the newly released, “One Night With the King”, a movie taken from the book of Esther. This is a movie for the whole family as we learn about faith, courage and trusting God in difficult circumstances. There will be free popcorn and bottled water. Invite someone to come and not only be entertained but have their faith strengthened.

ReScheduled Spaghetti Dinner

Our first Annual Spaghetti Dinner originally scheduled for February 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 10 for the same time period. All you can eat Spaghetti, Salad, Bread and drink for the following costs: Adults-$5, Seniors and children (5 years old & up)-$3, children under 5 are free. All the proceeds will be donated to Hope ministries. Invite someone to come and enjoy good food and fellowship.

March Women's Ministries and HonorBound

We have rescheduled our bi-monthly meetings for Sunday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m. The men will begin a new Bible study entitled, “being God’s man...by understanding a woman’s heart.” Ladies, you will want to make sure your man is present! Plan to be a part of this time of ministry, fun and fellowship.

New Appointment

Adam Forney has been approved by the board and put on staff as Central Bible Church’s new Associate Pastor, the Director of Ministries. Adam will have a number of responsibilities which will primarily be to share the work load of Pastor Forney and will include, but not be restricted to, developing outreach opportunities, organizing the structure of the church, oversight of the ministries of Central Bible Church and other ministry needs. Pastor Adam is currently involved with platform duties on Sunday morning, teaching an adult Sunday School class, and helping with Royal Rangers. Pastor Adam created our multi-media ministry and is still involved with our media ministry as well as maintaining our web presence. Take time to congratulate Pastor Adam on his new appointment.

Prayer Breakfast - Looks like right now it will stay cancelled until next month.

Ladies Beth Moore Bible Study

Natasha Forney is starting up a new small group Bible study for women on Monday nights. The first meeting will be on Monday, February 12 at 6:30 p. m. She will be using the DVD curriculum of Beth Moore entitled, “Believing God”. Participants will learn how to trust God to a greater degree and how to apply His Word to everyday situations. There will be 2 drawings for a FREE study workbook on the 12th! These Bible studies will be held at her home at 6201 E.P. True Pkwy. Apt. 10210 in West Des Moines. New Adult Sunday School Class

Adam Forney will be teaching a new Sunday School class entitled, “Intro to the Fundies, 101”. This will be a study on the 16 core beliefs of the Assemblies of God. The class will meet in the old nursery. This means everyone will be able to choose between two S.S. classes-Cindy Smith teaching in the sanctuary and Adam Forney in the old nursery. Now, there are two good reasons why YOU should be in S.S. if you don’t attend already!

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING AND APPRECIATION DINNER

We are going to have our Annual Business Meeting on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Preceding the annual meeting we will enjoy a catered meal in appreciation for everything that everyone has done this past year. We will eat dinner at 6:00 p.m. This is an evening to reflect on all the wonderful things God has done this past year and to look forward to the goals and the vision that the Lord has given for the coming year. Everyone is invited to come and be a part of this special time of fellowship and business.

Church Workers Meeting

There will be a meeting for all Sunday School teachers and helpers, Children’s Church workers, and Missionette and Royal Ranger workers on Saturday, January 13 at 9:00 a.m. at the church. It is important for everyone to be present. This meeting will last approximately one hour and we are going to look at what we want to do this coming year with these programs and your input is important. There will be doughnuts and coffee available.

This month’s Prayer Breakfasts are as follows: the Women’s will be on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 9:00 a.m. at the church. It will be a continental breakfast and there will be a sign-up sheet to sign up for what item each person would like to bring. The men’s will be on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Perkin’s Restaurant on E. 26th & Euclid. There will be a sign-up sheet in the foyer.

SNOW TUBING FOR EVERYONE

We are going to have a snow tubing outing for anyone who would like to on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Sleepy Hollow Activity Park in Pleasant Hill. This will take place even if there is no snowfall because Sleepy Hollow manufactures their own snow. You simply slide down the hill on an inner tube and then they pull you back up the hill-no work involved. The time for this event is from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for kids for unlimited tubing in the three hour time frame. If you want to be a part, please sign the sign-up sheet in the foyer.

Facing the Giants Pre-DVD Screening

“FACING THE GIANTS”-We are going to show this popular Christian movie on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the church. This is an inspiring movie for the whole family that has just finished it’s theatrical run and will not be available for home rental until Jan. 30. Read the insert included with this newsletter for more information about the film. This would be an excellent opportunity to invite someone to come watch an inspirational film on faith, courage and perseverance.
